Volume 1 (1910-1969)tells he story of Anita O'Day starting with Gene Krupa, who influenced Anita and her drummer, John Poole. Anita tells funny stories of traveling with Krupa's band during WWII, the 3,000,000 hit "Let Me Off Uptown, for which she was paid $7.00; her short career as a bootlegger during the war while married to her golf pro husband Carl Hoff; touring with Stan Kenton's orchestra on a railroad car; and the Newport Jazz Festival which led to a tour of Europe with Benny Goodman, among other stories.
Volume 2 (1970-2006) tells of her marriage to her pianist, John Poole, and her "later" career, covering Anita's hilarious remarks and philosophy of life, including "upholstered sewers", while singing in Los Angeles, Miami, Palm Springs, Newport Jazz Festival, and many other gigs.
