Born Louis Thomas Hardin in 1916, Moondog, a blind and homeless street musician in New York City, became an honorary member of the New York Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall in the late '40s. His unique compositions were released by the Prestige jazz label, and in the late 1960s the Viking-garbed composer became a pop music sensation on Columbia Records. The last decades of his life saw him become a master composer for European orchestras. This is his authorized biography.
