Soul jazz musician Les McCann is best known for his album "Swiss Movement" (featuring "Compared to What"), which sold millions of copies. What people don't know is that McCann carried a 35 mm camera around for decades: this collects prviously unpublished candid photos - taken between 1960 and 1980 - that capture seminal musicians, actors, activists, and athlethes during their heyday.

Inside are intimate portraits of Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Quincy Jones, Tina Turner, Louis Armstrong, Sammy Davis Jr., Nina Simone, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Cannonball Adderley, Count Basie, Mahalia Jackson, Eddie Harris - and dozens more. McCann met cultural and political icons too: Martin Luther King Jr., Muhammad Ali, Stokely Carmichael, Redd Fox, Bill Cosby, Richard Pryor, Jack Lemmon - even Jimmy Carter.
