This DVD is part of a series of videos produced in 1979 but which have had very limited distribution. Nill Price, a St. Paul-based Cornetist and longtime Hodes admirer, along with his friend Bill Drake, lined up impressive corporate sponsorship and produced a series of half-hour broadcasts titled "Arts Place."
In a sense they are a sequel to the Jazz Alley broadcasts Art did in the 1960s for WTTW in Chicago.
The programs presented here are the two that feature guest artists. He went back to two of his early influences here - Wingy Manone and Little Brother Montogomery.
The first half of the DVD features Art Hodes and Wingy Manone performing with Benny Morton, Charles "Truck" Parham, and George "Red" Maddock.
The second half of the DVD includes pianist Eurreal "Little Brother" Montgomery. When Hodes was exploring Chicago's music scene in the late 20's, Montgomery was one of the pianists working the South Side rent party circuit, where Art absorbed the blues feeling that imbued all of his work.
